While waiting for the bus today on my front lawn, my two younger kids decided to make snow angels. “Snow angels?” My eldest scoffed. “It’s summer!” Nevertheless, they lay down on their backs, giggling all the while, and indeed made the motions for creating snow angels. Did they see anything visual? Nope. Did they have a blast and work on increasing their motor planning, sensory registration, and bilateral upper and lower extremity coordination ( all without realizing it)? Definitely.
Note: To mix this up, you could play around with adding shaving cream to their bodies beforehand ( while wearing bathing suits and on grass or a similarly soft surface), and see what visual creations they could create with this movement pattern (or have them make their own!)
